The European Union invests €1,047,000.00 in BIM libraries and BIM tools with BIMETICA
The EUROPEAN UNION is joining the BIM wave and investing, together with BIMETICA, more than €1,047,000.00 in the development of BIM libraries and BIM tools, with the aim of promoting a European construction industry that is increasingly digital, efficient and sustainable.
This investment comes from two Horizon projects in which Bimetica is participating. The first is Build in Wood, with a total consortium investment of €10,313,177.50, and the second is GreeNest, with a total consortium investment of €6,548,762.50. In both projects, BIMETICA leads the information and communication technology processes, applying BIM (acronym for Building Information Modelling) methodology and technology to digital processes. This leadership consists of the development of BIM Object Libraries and tools for managing and visualising BIM projects in the Cloud in real time.
The direct investment in BIM for each project is €423,000.00 for GreeNest and €624,000.00 for Build in Wood, of which the European Union contributes 70% and Bimetica 30%, with each project being carried out over a period of 4 to 5 years.
European BIM Library
Both European projects have been equipped with BIM Libraries, and both developments are based on the GDO-BIM Standard, thereby gaining the trust of the European Commission in BIM Object Libraries developed by BIMETICA. This trust placed by the EU and the corresponding consortium members is based on the technical rigour and quality of the data structure in the BIM files.
This achieves homogeneous BIM object content for all professionals in the European Union who need to specify eco-efficient products in their construction projects.
In total, more than 1,250 BIM objects have been developed in five languages (English, Spanish, German, Italian and Norwegian). The BIM content is available to all professionals in the European Union free of charge, upon registration on the Bimetrica.com platform.
The files are developed using Revit® software and exported to IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) format, with the aim of promoting interoperability in the use of BIM objects.
Dual function of European BIM Libraries.
BIM objects serve a dual purpose for European projects.
On the one hand, they provide useful content for construction projects being developed in Europe and within the Build in Wood and GreeNest projects.
The aim is to improve calculations and measure eco-efficient performance in accordance with the data provided in each project. With these tools, professionals working in both consortia optimise their working time and energy efficiency and sustainability results.
Furthermore, the aim is for BIM objects to serve as a source of guidance for other manufacturers in Europe in the development of BIM libraries, so that they can standardise their BIM files and thus achieve compatibility with European BIM Libraries.
In the words of BIMETICA’s CEO.
When we decided to embark on European projects and invest jointly with the European Union, we were clear that BIM objects developed for Europe had to be of high quality, and the GDO-BIM standard is the only standard that meets the European Union’s requirements.
With the European BIM Libraries, from Build in Wood and GreeNest, professionals will have access to BIM content that largely meets the data requirements of the European Construction Product Regulation (current Regulation (EU) 2024/3110 and repealed Regulation (EU) No 305/2011), thereby assimilating the information bases for the Digital Passport for Construction Products.
Finally, European manufacturers will be able to obtain a Development Guide for their BIM objects by accessing both libraries and using reverse engineering to learn about the standardised structure of BIM content. Alternatively, if they prefer to contact BIMETICA, we can assist them by providing information so that they can develop their own high-quality BIM library.
