Sika and Robtrusion are collaborating to promote advanced structural solutions for the industrial sector
- The partnership combines Sika’s expertise in adhesive technologies with the composite structural profiles developed by Robtrusion.
- In the shipbuilding sector, the ultimate aim is to offer shipyards a comprehensive, validated solution designed to improve the efficiency, reliability and industrialisation of production processes.
Madrid, 12 June 2026.- Sika and Robtrusion have launched a strategic partnership aimed at developing advanced structural solutions for the industry, a pillar of the Spanish economy currently undergoing transformation, in which weight reduction, production efficiency, process quality and material reliability are increasingly decisive factors.
The agreement combines Sika’s expertise in adhesive technologies for industrial applications with Robtrusion’s capabilities in the design and manufacture of fibreglass composite structural profiles.
One of the first areas of this collaboration is the development of solutions for the shipbuilding sector, which will enable shipyards to be offered a more comprehensive solution, incorporating optimised structural profiles, compatible bonding systems and technical support throughout the validation, design and implementation phases.
Robtrusion develops structural profiles using its own advanced manufacturing technology, designed to be integrated into various types of industrial structures. Its solutions are specifically geared towards the shipbuilding sector, where corrosion resistance, lightness, repeatability and ease of installation are key factors.
The collaboration will enable both companies to make significant progress in validating comprehensive solutions for shipyards. The compatibility and performance of Robtrusion’s profiles with Sika’s adhesive technologies have been evaluated through tests carried out in Sika’s laboratories, with positive results. Furthermore, both companies are considering the possibility of carrying out specific tests with materials, substrates and configurations provided by the customers themselves, with the aim of tailoring each solution to the actual needs of each project.
“This collaboration goes far beyond a traditional customer-supplier relationship. We are working closely with Sika to offer shipyards a comprehensive, end-to-end solution, combining our structural profiles with their extensive expertise in adhesive technologies. The tests carried out allow us to move forward with a solid technical foundation and, at the same time, offer customers the possibility of validating solutions adapted to their own materials and configurations,” says Iván Sáenz, Director of Operations at Robtrusion.
The partnership addresses some of the key challenges facing shipbuilding today. Compared to traditional processes involving a high degree of manual labour, such as lamination or infusion, solutions based on prefabricated profiles and structural bonding systems enable a shift towards more industrialised, efficient and repeatable production models. Key advantages include reduced manufacturing and installation times, improved working conditions, optimised use of materials and reduced structural weight.
Robtrusion’s profiles have already been applied in real-world projects within the shipbuilding sector, such as structural work on catamarans, decks of vessels over 30 metres in length, superstructures for fishing vessels, and auxiliary components for boats. In some of these cases, the company has documented improvements such as a 20% reduction in structural weight compared to traditional solutions based on manual lamination, or very significant reductions in production times for certain elements.
For Sika, this collaboration reinforces its role as a technology partner to the industry in developing solutions that provide not only products, but also technical expertise, testing capabilities and support during final application.
“The shipbuilding industry needs solutions capable of combining innovation, reliability and efficiency throughout the entire production process. At Sika, we contribute our expertise in industrial adhesives and sealants to help validate lighter, safer and more productive construction systems. The collaboration with Robtrusion allows us to work from the development and testing phase right through to final application, offering the customer an integrated and technically proven solution,” says Daniel Vallespín, Director of Sika’s Industry Division.
The cooperation between the two companies also opens the door to new applications in other industrial sectors where lightness, durability, mechanical strength and installation efficiency are critical factors, such as transport, rail, buses, renewable energy, construction and infrastructure.
In addition to the technical validation of solutions, Sika and Robtrusion will work on a joint dissemination strategy aimed at raising awareness of the possibilities of this collaboration in specialist forums, trade fairs, technical publications and initiatives targeting the naval and industrial sectors.
Through this alliance, both companies are reinforcing their commitment to a more innovative, efficient and sustainable industry, capable of incorporating advanced structural solutions that improve manufacturing processes, reduce the environmental impact of materials and deliver greater technical value to the end customer.
