Saxun is involved in Villa Ayantam, a zero-emission home certified in Spain
The Alicante-based brand has supplied 12 Wind Screen Dante systems, integrated into the architectural design to optimise external solar control, energy efficiency and comfort in this luxury home in Marbella.
Saxun, Spain’s leading manufacturer of sun protection solutions, is part of Villa Ayantam, a luxury residential development situated in the Cascada de Camoján estate, right on Marbella’s Golden Mile. The property holds the highest BREEAM rating in Spain and is one of only two to have achieved BREEAM Exceptional, the highest rating awarded by the certification scheme.
Villa Ayantam was designed according to bioclimatic and biophilic principles, with the aim of generating more energy than it consumes. In this context, external sun protection plays a key role within the building envelope, not as an added element, but as a solution integrated from the very outset of the project.
Saxun has contributed to the property with 12 Wind Screen systems, model Dante, featuring a 125mm cassette and Soltis Opaque B92 fabric in Bronze 1043. Notably, these solutions have been custom-designed by Saxun to fit the villa’s large windows, improve natural light control, reduce direct solar gain and contribute to indoor thermal comfort.
Efficient external sun protection
One of the main challenges at Villa Ayantam was to optimise the home’s energy performance without compromising on an open, light-filled architecture that connects with the outdoors. Saxun’s Wind Screens help reduce the thermal load by acting before solar radiation hits the glass, which promotes a more stable indoor temperature and reduced use of air conditioning.
Integrating these systems from the design stage allows sun protection to become an integral part of the architecture itself. Each opening in the building has its own specific dimensions, orientation and relationship with the façade; consequently, the Wind Screens have been developed as bespoke solutions, respecting the aesthetics of the building envelope and creating a clean, contemporary look.
The ZIP system ensures the fabric’s stability in windy conditions and enhances protection for the large windows against sunlight, rain, dust and external dirt. Meanwhile, the Soltis Opaque B92 fabric provides total opacity when privacy, rest or greater light control is required.
Dynamic solar control
The systems installed at Villa Ayantam are integrated into the home’s smart home system. Thanks to this connection, the Wind Screens can be programmed according to timetables, seasons, sun angle or predictive systems, operating automatically when the space requires it.
This adaptability makes solar protection an active and dynamic solution within the home’s energy performance.
For Carlos Martínez Jarabo, a partner at S&H and Project Manager for Villa Ayantam, the cornerstones of the project are “beauty, sustainability and health”, three values that are “essential in the high-end luxury market”. In this vein, the choice of Saxun’s Wind Screens was clear from the outset: “Our commitment to this solution was very clear from the very beginning”.
Martínez Jarabo also highlights the role of solar protection in the project’s final outcome: “Having Saxun’s Wind Screens helps the design to come across as powerfully as it has.”
A benchmark for well-being
Villa Ayantam embodies a vision of luxury living where sustainability, efficiency, design and well-being go hand in hand. For Saxun, this project demonstrates the full potential of solar protection when it is integrated into the architectural design and tailored to the specific requirements of each space.
