Saxun lattices contribute to the transformation of IES Cotes Baixes secondary school
A project that has redefined the educational space, creating classrooms, corridors and common areas redesigned to promote well-being and creativity. The design has made it possible to open up large spaces, protected by louvres from the Alicante-based brand specialising in sun protection solutions.
The Cotes Baixes Secondary School in Alcoi (Alicante) has completed an ambitious educational transformation project, consolidating its position as a national benchmark in innovation, vocational training and internationalisation.
Recognised by the Ministry of Education as a Centre of Excellence for Vocational Training, its transformation focuses on more open, functional and sustainable spaces, designed to promote student well-being and creativity.
The project has been supported by local businesses, as the centre is part of Alcoi’s industrial and educational DNA.
Among the participating brands is Saxun, based in Alicante, which specialises in solutions for enclosures, solar protection and interior decoration. Specifically, the design has used its V-50 and V-90 LED louvres to control natural light.
The new design includes V-50 louvres in the area connecting the main hall with the courtyard, covering large windows that allow controlled natural light to enter, reducing direct sunlight and improving the building’s thermal performance.
The main entrance features a V-90 lattice structure with integrated LED lighting, which provides sun protection, architectural value and warm outdoor lighting during the night. Both solutions have been manufactured in RAL 9006 and Silver Grat finishes, in keeping with the overall design.
These actions demonstrate how passive architecture, technology and design come together to create sustainable and emotionally stimulating educational spaces.
An idea conveyed by the director of IES Cotes Baixes, Fernando Sansaloni: ‘A person learns thanks to a series of conditions, and comfort and well-being are among them. With these louvres, which allow you to filter the light, when you are in this space, talking, learning or receiving a visit, communication is better and has a greater impact.’
With more than 1,200 students and 150 teachers, IES Cotes Baixes is projected as a model for future educational environments, integrating values of innovation, sustainability and design at the service of learning.
