The College of Enginyers of Barcelona and Bimetica sign a Collaboration Agreement to promote BIM.
The College of Graduate Engineers and Industrial Technical Engineers of Barcelona (Enginyers BCN) and the company Bimetica, signed a Collaboration Agreement aimed at promoting BIM methodology and technology. Among the group of professionals of the industry through the development of a Library of BIM Objects and guide in the training of professionals on the advantages provided by this technology.
One of the main objectives of the Agreement is the development of a “BIM Library designed by and for engineers” and professionals of the industry, being essential to ensure a correct specification and usability of the objects in a BIM project.
The agreement signed with Bimetica also includes collaboration in the coordination of training sessions, in matters of information and documentation and in studies of the working conditions of professionals in the sector. Likewise, the door is left open to generate other benefits for members.
As a result of the agreement, a working group was set up, composed of other collaborators: Jordi Cañas, Eduard Romero and Xavier Soler; on behalf of the College, by Xavier Urbano, Jordi Segura and David Jiménez; and on behalf of Bimetica, by Pablo Callegaris and Cristóbal Bernal (with Cristobal Bernal the technical coordinator of the development).
In this first phase, a development of 100 generic BIM objects was estimated in Revit software, version 2019 plus their export to IFC, considering in this development “Fire Safety” specification products.
The development will be done entirely under the GDO-BIM Standard for the development of BIM Libraries, which is why it presents an additional guarantee on the quality and usability of the Library.
An advantage when developing it with the GDO-BIM Standard, is that its structure of parameters contemplates the Traceability criteria of the information of the digitized elements, so that they have the same usability capacity among all the professionals involved in a project and in their different phases (Design + Execution + Maintenance).
Likewise, by having a standardized structure of parameters, at first instance, the generic BIM objects of the College of Enginyers BCN, can be used perfectly in a preliminary project providing not only graphic but technical information, so that they can later be replaced by brand elements that have the same level of quality in the standardization of their data.

A Collaboration that benefits Professionals.
The collaborative project has grown. Currently, 96 BIM Objects have been made in Spanish, to which another 96 will be added shortly in English and another 96 in Catalan, the development of BIM objects in Catalan being a real novelty, as it covers potential private developments and public tenders in Catalonia. where the language of development is the latter, thereby respecting the principle of linguistic non-discrimination.
Free Access to the BIM Objects of the Colegio de Enginyers BCN. This was an important point in order to promote and stimulate the use of these tools among professionals. They can be downloaded from the Colegio de Enginyers BCN website and from the Bimetica platform.
